I create art for people who have always felt like outsiders and unrecognized by their surroundings
So they can feel confident and flourish in what makes them uniquely beautiful!

Who am I?
Hey, I'm Yoav Shemesh — although most people know me as Mr. SHMSH.
I've always loooved drawing. As a kid, I was completely obsessed with comics. I'd spend hours staring at the artwork, trying to figure out how few lines and a bit of color could tell an entire story in an instant.
Funny enough, I didn't start out as a full-time artist. despite my eternal love of Art, I studied architecture and interior design, which taught me a lot about space, balance, and how people experience the environments around them. I loved the creative side of it, but something always felt like it was missing. I wanted to create things that felt more personal—something that could make people stop, smile, think, or even remember a part of themselves.
Finding my own artistic voice wasn't something that happened overnight, I spent years experimenting, trying different techniques, creating and selling plenty of work that just didn't feel like me. Eventually I stopped trying to paint the way I thought I was expected to and leaned into the things I'd loved all along without fear of whether it will be liked or not! — bold colors, expressive figures, comic-book energy, and storytelling.
That's really where Mr. SHMSH was born! (think of it as my own super-hero alias)
Today I create figurative paintings that are playful, expressive, and full of personality. Every piece starts with a story or a feeling, and I want people to find their own connection to it. Some people see nostalgia. Others see humor, emotion, or even themselves. my greatest joy is that everyone comes up with their own interpretation.
My background in design still plays a huge role in what I do. I don't just think about how a painting looks—I think about how it lives in a space. I want my work to feel like it belongs there, becoming part of someone's everyday life instead of just hanging on a wall.
At the end of the day, I'm just someone who never outgrew his love for comics, storytelling, and making people feel something through art. If one of my paintings makes you smile, sparks a conversation, or reminds you of a memory, then I've done my job :)
